AdvisorWe
“I pay all sorts of money for my kids’ sports trainers, but this seems ridiculously more important than that, right?”
– current Jones & Associates client
The concept of AdvisorWe is based on many years of being an advisor in independent day and boarding schools up and down the East Coast. Part of the ethos of “The Advisor” at schools like these is to be a guide, nudge, confidant, provocateur….someone else to encourage your child to explore the possibilities a great school has to offer; invariably, the good advisor ends up like family to both students and parents (thus, “We”). With such high standards to uphold, here are the particulars:
What is AdvisorWe offering?
In the years prior to your child’s final year/year and a half in high school (designated as “Seniors”), you are retaining me over the calendar year (with predetermined meetings throughout plus whatever you need in addition) to act as a "college prep" advisor to you and your child with regard to choosing classes, visiting colleges, navigating school issues, and much more. This does include all the trappings of an "independent educational consultant" (I am an IECA Professional Member), notably walking clients through the entirety of the college screening and application process during the Junior and Senior years. You can read more about our industry expectations here: https://www.iecaonline.com/quick-links/parents-students/college-and-graduate-school-admission. As usual, you can contact me with any concerns/questions on nearly any issue as long as you don’t abuse the privilege or the issue itself isn’t extra-ordinary.
For the “Seniors” cohort, we will accelerate our Junior-year spring schedule toward weekly Senior-year summer meetings. Seniors will still have considerable independent work on their own….your child’s time with me will focus on sorting through college choices, focusing and editing essay writing, and prepping for interviews, but there are a lot of important elements that will remain appropriately on their plate.
For which Classes is AdvisorWe accepting clients?
Currently, the Classes of 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028
How many clients per Class?
No more than 15: the 2025 cohort will have a maximum of 15 students, the 2026 a maximum of 15, etc….
How long does the contract year run?
It follows the calendar year – not the school year – so January 1st through December 31st. Why? Because I want to meet with the youngest group when they are picking Freshman classes at the end of 8th grade. For my seniors, most of the heavy lifting is done by January of their Senior year. If things aren’t “done” by January of senior year, an additional surcharge will be added.
How much?
$1500 for Freshman & Sophomore years combined
$1500 for Juniors
$3000 for Seniors*
Each family can negotiate the payment plan individually with Chuck
*Chuck no longer takes advisees who start as seniors, but can help find you another advisor
