ABOUT
So, how does someone become an “educational consultant?” In Chuck Jones's case, arrival at this position seems a natural progression after many years of involvement in education and with children. Chuck's adventures in life and learning have made him uniquely qualified to counsel and advise people and schools as they wrestle with the important decisions related to their children's education. After helping countless friends and colleagues in a personal capacity, Chuck came to the realization that he enjoys this type of work immensely, and the time was right for him to offer his services professionally. Prior to starting Jones & Associates, Chuck was the Head of School at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School (Columbia, SC), the Provost and Middle School Director at Forsyth Country Day School (Lewisville/Winston-Salem, NC), a Dean, teacher, and dorm head at Episcopal High School (Alexandra, VA), and a member of the faculty at Delbarton School (Morristown, NJ). Additionally, he has consulted in a few other schools, most notably with admissions at Rumson Country Day School (Rumson, NJ). He even managed to squeeze in a stint as a summer associate at Morgan Stanley early in his career. In addition, Chuck has coached multiple interscholastic sports and been involved in fine arts administration. Yes, Chuck's road has been a winding one, both within schools & nonprofits and up and down the east coast of the US!
Dr. Jones holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Virginia School of Education & Human Development, a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Teachers College (Columbia University), and a Bachelors degree in Religion from Princeton University. His doctoral dissertation examines the perceptions of teachers, administrators, and board members regarding the outcomes of accreditation. Not surprisingly, Chuck has also been a member of and led numerous visiting teams for reaccrediting schools governed by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). He is a Professional Member of the Independant Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and has attended countless educational leadership and counseling workshops, held a number of professional educational licenses, and served in various alumni leadership roles at his alma maters. Chuck has been involved in many non-profits over the years, currently serving as a trustee at Mary's Place by the Sea, on the vestry of St. George's By The River, and as an advisor to Orion Military Scholarships. He recently rejoined the Monmouth County Historical Association (and serves as its President) and Trinity Hall (he was a founding trustee) boards, and is the immediate past President of the Rumson (NJ) Board of Education and the Two River Little League. He is also the author of an as yet unpublished book for "tweens" titled A Cotton Candy Kid.
Among the accolades he has received in his life, Chuck is honored by having the faculty award at Forsyth Country Day School named for him. The Jones Faculty Award is given annually to the faculty member who has exhibited – through love, unending generosity, and commitment to others – the highest ideals of the teaching profession. In 2019, Chuck was grudgingly the honoree at MCHA's 44th Garden Party for his "remarkable commitment and service to MCHA."
Chuck lives on the New Jersey shore with his wife Shea and their three school-aged children and makes it a point to volunteer for his kids' out-of-school activities. In his most important role as a parent and husband, he shares with his clients an understanding of the critical and complex nature of the educational opportunities and decisions facing the modern family and nonprofit.
